Distance diminishes mediocre passions and increases great ones, as the wind blows out the candles and fans the bonfire” - François de La Rochefoucauld

How all started

We met in the US in June 2022 and took no more than 3 weeks to realise we were meant to be! Does it sound crazy? Maybe yes, but here’s the story of how we felt in love in 3 steps:

1)       We were gathering poolside with the group of friends we made in the US, absorbed in small talks on a hot Texas summer night with ice-cold beers at hands, when we “accidentally” sat next to each for the first time. It still seems odd to us, but for a strange twist of fate, we both immediately left the small talks aside and plunged into a 1-hour one-to-one discussion about life-lasting commitments, engagement in emotional bonds, love and even marriage (!). Again, it sounds crazy (and, clearly, we had no idea of what was coming ahead), but it was already since then that we realized our minds were connected;

2)       We were out clubbing in Austin with the rest of the group when Alberto worked up the courage to approach Belén and asked her to dance. Yes guys, you understood correctly: a European managed to conquer a Latina dancing! Did Alberto dance incredibly? Probably yes (check this out for a tutorial on his unique technique https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2mmgB0OKTA). Was Belén a bit drunk? Without maybes (haha!). That was our first dance, and it was since then that we discovered our bodies were connected too;

3)       But it was only after Alberto cooked his carbonara, that Belén realised he was the one! And after a second deep talk about our lives, it was during that dinner that we discovered that it wasn’t just a matter of chemistry or intellectual affinity: our souls were truly deeply connected.

So deeply connected, -Alberto thought-, that it seemed like a brilliant idea to him, not even a week later, to ask Belén to be his girlfriend on June 18th, 2022, while she was serenely swimming in the Caesars Palace pool. But, as absurd as it may sound, Belén clearly said “no” at first (haha), complaining that it would have been the shortest relationship ever as in 2 weeks we had to go back to our countries. Let’s be “boyfriends-for-two-weeks” -he immediately replied-, but it goes without saying that Alberto, the stubborn, had different plans…

Long story short: 6 weeks after, Belén was already in Puglia sitting on the table with Alberto’s family to celebrate his dad’s 60th birthday, and 4 months after that, Alberto was in Mexico celebrating Belen’s dad birthday too, and after less than 2 years we were already living together in Rome.

As you can see, a lesson we learned is that a relationship doesn’t really depend on “steps” or time, and for sure not only on physical presence, but on the depth of the connection and that, -exactly as we said during that first conversation-, the willingness to make it work can trump everything.

We are now sure that our souls recognized each other since that first night, and that -after having overcome time zones, cultural differences and language barriers and having crossed oceans just to be next to each other- what we thought it was going to last 2 weeks, will last a lifetime.

We cannot wait to celebrate this special moment with you!

STAYING FOR A BIT LONGER IN APULIA?

The sunny region between two seas (the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea) and warm hospitality in places rich in history. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, Apulia is a magical combination of artefacts, history, art, and unspoilt nature, amidst beautiful coastlines and picture-postcard landscapes. This is the place to be in summer! A region of golden beaches and crystal-clear waters, intense flavours, and fascinating destinations. We give you some recommendations of the many places you can discover in this beautiful region:

Visit Bari

Bari is not only the hometown of Alberto but also the capital of the Apulia region. It’s a grand old town next to the sea, with two very different sides; the modern Murat district and the older Bari Vecchia.

The city’s most prominent building is the Basilica di San Nicola, a splendid church built in the Romanesque style, and one of the earliest Norman churches in Apulia. It was built to house the mortal remains of St. Nicholas (better known as Santa Claus, the father of Christmas). But most importantly, this place was where Alberto proposed to Belén, and she said yes! So, if you would also like to leave a letter to Saint Nicholas to ask him to make your dreams come true (as Belén did), we recommend you stop by here.

Visit Alberobello

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996, Alberobello is known for its high concentration of trulli; distinctive mortarless limestone houses with domed roofs that are symbolic of the surrounding Valle d’Itria (you will see some of them at the venue of the wedding!).

This small village is sprinkled with quaint restaurants, bars, and shops, all housed inside this UNESCO-protected Trulli.

Visit Polignano a Mare

This beautiful town is one of the oldest coastal settlements in Apulia, and the setting is dramatic: buildings teeter precariously over the cliff tops, offering glorious vistas over the Adriatic. The historic centre is full of atmosphere - buy a gelato or a pastry from one of the cornetteria and just soak up the atmosphere as you stroll around. Local sea caves can also be visited on a boat tour.

Visit Ostuni

Known as the “White City” thanks to the white tufa stone from which its buildings are constructed, Ostuni is located in the Valle d’Itria, a fertile valley carpeted with vineyards, almond and olive trees. Apart from the town itself and its 15th-century cathedral, Ostuni is known for the local DOC “Collina di Brindisi” olive oil, which is sold in various strengths (delicate, medium, or strong) by numerous producers around town.

If you’re in Apulia, you cannot stop trying its fascinating flavours. Don’t miss:

1. Focaccia

2. Pasta all'assassina

3. Sgagliozze (deep fried polenta)

4. Orecchiette pasta

5. Fish and Seafood

6. Capocollo

7. Puglia Olive Oil

8. Stracciatella Cheese

9. Burrata Cheese

10. Cacciocavallo Cheese

11. Scamorza Cheese

12. Ricotta Cheese

13. Tette della Monaca

14. Bocconotto dessert

15. Primitivo red wine

16. Italian desserts

17. Slow foods of Puglia

18. Panzerotti

19. Taralli

20. Friselle
